Indian Classical Dance: Bharthanatyam

Dance is a beautiful journey of self discovery! Whether it be self-confidence, emotional intelligence, curiosity, I believe Bharatanatyam is a great way for me to connect the Indian side of my identity and understand how beautiful and deep-rooted my Indian culture is.

Bharatanatyam is a 2,000+ year old, one of the oldest traditional dance forms. The Bharatanatyam repertoire combines Nritta (pure dance) and Abhinaya (expressions) to symbolize various epics in Hinduism. Combining expressions and dance technique, Bharatanatyam depicts stories and relationships of normal people  as well.

For my dance journey, I completed training, Arangetram, in 2018 under the tutelage of Anupama Mirle, founder of Nrityarpana School of Performing Arts (NSPA) in Mason, Ohio. As I kick-off the next stage of my dance career, I try to stay connected to dance, while in college, by teaching and choreographing pieces for NSPA students, help train other students to prepare for their Arangetrams, and cultivate projects for myself where I can push myself to continue learning dance from taking workshops in India to participating in various programs in my community. Dance is a creative tool for self-expression and I try to use it to express myself as a South Asian American.

I'm open to bookings and getting involved in projects! If interested in collaborating, please email me at keerthi.sekar101@gmail.com.
